It’s been thrilling to watch the Paris Olympics, celebrate our Kiwi achievements and witness the exemplary sportsmanship on display. Something we’re not boasting about however, is the most recent OECD report on school bullying. Depending on which news agency you follow, New Zealand has the first or second highest rate of student reported bullying out of the 34 countries who took part. This translates to about a quarter of our young people experiencing some degree of physical or psychological bullying during their school years.

This statistic is contrary to what we want for our young people. We want our schools to be safe and inclusive places of learning and we want to inspire young people to reach their potential. In short, we want to foster thriving school cultures which can then positively impact whanau and communities.

Using the mindset and language of E Tū Tāngata we are establishing proactive approaches to building a healthy school culture. Come along to hear about it’s implementation and success in local schools, the difference between self-esteem and self-worth and how to use the E Tū Tāngata language to call out greatness in young people.

Speakers:
Simon Moriarty - Principal, Te Ahi Kaikōmako Rolleston School
Jay and Nicky Geldard - E Tū Tāngata Co-founders
Greg Jansen and Richard Matla - Leadership Lab
